Attention all recruits! Enlist in the 5th Regiment for an afternoon at Historic Fort Snelling. "New recruits" (ages 8-12) will learn about the lives of soldiers during the 1820s at Fort Snelling. Campers will learn to march and drill, watch musket and cannon firings and much more. Space is limited to 12 per day.

In today’s fast paced world the art of social graces can get lost along the way. Victorian girls, like the Ramsey granddaughters Anita and Laura Furness, were expected to attend finishing school where they learned the arts of personal interaction and good manners. In this one-of-a kind day camp, young ladies will dress up in Victorian outfits and learn about Victorian fashion, etiquette, dancing and poise – culminating with a tea on the porch and a dance recital for families. Open to girls 9-12.

Become a super-sleuth and use clues to solve a mystery at the Ramsey House. During this 3-day camp, kids will explore primary source materials like the Ramsey House itself, artifacts inside the home, letters, journals and recipes. Campers will comb through the evidence to reveal the mystery. A new mystery will be presented each day. At the end of camp, each child will be certified a Ramsey House History Detective. For boys and girls ages 11-13.

Join us at Historic Fort Snelling for this special two-day camp and learn the skills Davy and others like him used on the frontier. State Capitol One-Day Civil War History Camp (Ages 9-12)

Campers (age 9-12) will explore the role Minnesota played in the Civil War. They will hear from a costumed character playing a Civil War veteran, learn about equipment and uniforms worn by soldiers, take on the role of a soldier and write a letter home, create a newspaper front page, make a map of the battles, go on a scavenger hunt to crack a Confederate code and play a game of cat and mouse on the Capitol lawn. Campers will also tour the Capitol and examine historic battle paintings and newly conserved battle flags on display. Campers should bring their own bag lunch. Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided.

State Capitol One-Day Art History Camp (Ages 9-12)

Campers (age 9-12) will learn about the unique artwork in the State Capitol and on the Capitol Mall through tours and a variety of hands-on activities. They will have the opportunity to create a new memorial for the Capitol Mall in clay and present their design ideas to the group, create a color wheel, pose for a Governor's portrait and design a Capitol-themed tee-shirt to take home. Limit 20.

Calling all fife and drummers, sign-up for an afternoon of music and fun. Campers will be issued instruments including tin whistles, which they can take home, and drums that they will use while learning to play military music from the 1800s. The afternoon ends with a special performance in the Historic Fort. No musical experience is necessary. Designed for ages 10-14. Space is limited to 10 per camp.

Fort Snelling Bugler One-Day Camp (Ages 10-14) - August 24, 2013

Spend an afternoon with the musicians of Historic Fort Snelling and learn how to play the bugle. Campers (age 10-14) will be issued bugles so they can practice a variety of historic tunes, many of which are still used today. No musical experience is necessary. Boy Scouts can use this class to work towards their Bugling Merit Badge. Space is limited to 10 per camp.
